MMR Vaccine data was faked

I had known for quite some time that the study linking MMR vaccine had long since been shown to be unreliable as other studies had not replicated it or contradicted it. I had blogged about this and in short there is no link between MMR and autism.

What is more shocking though is an investigation by my favourite paper (The Times) that the data had actually been faked. More details here.

The original study caused vaccination rates to plummet, measles to come back and people to die. I think it should even be considered if Dr Andrew Wakefield should be tried for manslaughter.

How we treat autistic adults

I saw this article in the NZ Herald and was pretty disgusted to be honest. Autism is not the same as being mentally retarded (and even they don't deserve that treatment).

When I was a kid I was put in with mentally retarded people and when I went to get my diagnosis a couple of years ago I was in with the criminally insane (or close to it).

Come on people - autism is about people thinking different (well actually we think you think different....)

Serotonin and autism

There's an interesting article here from Medical News Today which talks about high levels of serotonin and autistic people - or more accurately it talks about some tests done.

When I look at moods and how I feel I often wonder what is going on here with me compared to neurotypical people. I hope this research is followed up more.

I was quite impressed but it made me cry as I remembered my teenage years
